Birthday Gift Baskets

Winter is a time for peaceful reflection. The earth lies still, and people traditionally have taken time to learn, grow, and celebrate that another year has ended with another year still ahead. Among the countless celebrations and holy days found during the winter months, there are also a few birthdays scattered in! Here is how to make special winter birthday gift baskets for those celebrating during the winter.

Start out by finding out what their general likes and dislikes are. Winter generally is seen as a time for celebrating the past year, and almost anything collected during the past year and preserved works great with winter themes. For example, if someone is fond of cherries, a jar of cherry jam or some chocolate covered cherries would be a nice thing to add into their birthday gift basket. Snow, deer, and pine trees are common winter symbols as well, though you should not feel that you have to stick to those themes unless you know the ones you are making the birthday gift baskets for would like that.

From there, go ahead and choose a basket or other item to hold the gifts. Plain unpainted or white wicker are always acceptable options for winter, though steel or aluminum are gaining popularity in recent years as a way of adding a little shine to the gift overall. Having the gifts all rest inside a larger gift is a clever way to make birthday gift baskets. For example, a large kitchen bowl can be both a gift basket and a gift in itself!

Filling the basket with gifts should be fairly simple in winter time. Every store seems to be stocked with extra gifts for the coming holidays, and there is an abundance of nicely made items perfect for every taste. Generally, you should have one main gift item and several matching smaller items per basket for the best effect. For example, if you chose an expensive marble cooking slab as the main gift, a less expensive rolling pin and some baking mix would be appropriate smaller gifts.

Winter birthday gift baskets are easily decorated with large ribbons, however, some people enjoy opting for fresh holly or pine boughs. If fresh decorations are chosen, be careful that you select non-toxic plants and only add the decorations shortly before giving the gift. From there, just give the birthday gift basket and watch their delight!
